What's On / Ashworth Cup - Corby Town FC - Saturday 12 July
« on: June 27, 2014, 06:54:46 PM »
Come along to Steel Park, Corby to see 48 local football teams compete for this year’s Ashworth Cup. There will also be live bands, DJs, outside bars, a local highland dance school, a fun fair and activities for the children.

Now in its third year, the Ashworth Cup is held in honour of Corby soldier Lance Corporal James Ashworth VC, who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery in Afghanistan after he was killed leading his fire team in an attack on an enemy compound on June 13, 2012.

Gates open at 10.30am and the football tournament kicks off at 12.30pm, when James’ mother Kerry will rename Steel Park’s Castle End terrace as ‘The James Ashworth VC Memorial Stand’ in honour of James, who played for Corby Town’s youth team as a lad.

Entrance is £2 for adults and £1 for children. Proceeds will be split between two charities, Macy's Memory and Blesma.

Festive family fun. Children can visit Father Christmas in his grotto, make their own Christmas cards and advent crafts and take their pick in the children’s lucky dip. You can also fill your Christmas stockings with handmade craft items from the ever popular ‘Made in the Villages' stall, try your luck on the raffle and chocolate tombola, turn water into wine, enjoy a glass of mulled wine, tea or coffee and perhaps a mince pie or two. All proceeds go to the school.
