Northamptonshire allotments
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:51:49 AM »
According to Northamptonshire county councils website all the parish councils run council owned allotments. Below I will list all the latest information on allotments around Northamptonshire that I have obtained from the parish councils.

« Reply #1 on: June 29, 2011, 11:03:16 AM »
They have 40 allotments with a waiting list of 7 - the person who has been longest on the list has been there since the 21st March last year.  The cost is 10.00 per plot - they are 5 poles in size - with water provided.  They are located along the Potterspury Road at the edge of the village.  Lesley Ratcliffe is the contact as the Parish Clerk for Yardley Gobion. Please contact admin for contact details.

Aston le walls allotments
« Reply #9 on: July 19, 2011, 10:58:37 AM »
Currently no allotments but the Parish Clerk would like to hear information regarding former allotments at this location.

"Unfortunately our village "lost" its Allotments some time in the 1970's I think.  I remember them existing when I was first married and moved to the village in 1971, but what happened to them I'm afraid I do not know and a copy of any historical data which may be recorded for our village would be much appreciated to fill in my village history/knowledge.

I subsequently became Parish Clerk in 1988 when the Parish Council was formed, the village (being very small) had previously just been Parish Meeting status with various Chairmen over the years, records are very scarce and much information has been lost when residents have died, moved away or paperwork simply thrown away or passed on to family who have then moved away.

The Allotments in this village were a small parcel of land which had formed part of Manor Farm, formerly owned by the Ironstone (British Steel?) Company, but presumably when they was not used so much, it was taken back into the farm as agricultural land and then subequently sold after various owners of Manor Farm moved in over the years.

It is a sad loss as I understand some villagers now have to go to a neighbouring village to tend Allotments and grow their own vegetables, although many properties in the village have large gardens.

If you can shed any light on any records which might have been held for this village, I would love to hear about them.  Otherwise, I suspect information is lost for ever and certainly the village has no Allotments now."

Contact admin if you have any information you would like to share.

I am afraid Wollaston Parish Council does not get involved with the running etc of the allotments in Wollaston. I do, however, have a contact for you:

Northampton town allotments
« Reply #11 on: July 19, 2011, 11:01:52 AM »
All of the allotments in Northampton are currently fully occupied and have waiting lists that vary from 12 months to over 3 years, depending on the site.

A standard size plot is 30 per year, with smaller plots being priced proportionately (i.e. a half plot is 15). The water charges are included in the rent. The only other cost to pay to us is for a key to the gates.

We have 17 sites in Northampton, spread fairly evenly round the town although there aren't any in the Town Centre.

Contact admin for details.

Hartwell allotments
« Reply #12 on: July 19, 2011, 12:42:46 PM »
Hartwell has two Sites, both under a Charitable Trust - Registered Charity No. 800622.

Land at Ashton Road - approx. 1.5 acres, comprising 32 Plots. All plots taken with a waiting list of five.
                                    Rent per annum is 10.
Mains water supplied via standpipes adjacent to the plots.

Land at Folly Lane -    approx. 1.5 acres, comprising 32 Plots, 17 of which are cultivated as garden/leisure plots.
There are two vacant plots and no waiting list.
                                    Rent per annum is 5.
The remaining 15 plots are let out on a 364 day lease agreement.
This site is not popular due to not having a water supply - potential members prefer the
Ashton Road Site as it has the great benefit of a water supply.

Earls Barton Parish Council manage one of the three allotment sites in the village.  The rent is 8 per annum although we currently have a waiting list.  In order to be added to the waiting list or for further details of the management of the two alternative allotment sites in Earls Barton, please contact me at theclerk@earlsbarton.gov.uk
Thanks
