Currently no allotments but the Parish Clerk would like to hear information regarding former allotments at this location.
"Unfortunately our village "lost" its Allotments some time in the 1970's I think. I remember them existing when I was first married and moved to the village in 1971, but what happened to them I'm afraid I do not know and a copy of any historical data which may be recorded for our village would be much appreciated to fill in my village history/knowledge.
I subsequently became Parish Clerk in 1988 when the Parish Council was formed, the village (being very small) had previously just been Parish Meeting status with various Chairmen over the years, records are very scarce and much information has been lost when residents have died, moved away or paperwork simply thrown away or passed on to family who have then moved away.
The Allotments in this village were a small parcel of land which had formed part of Manor Farm, formerly owned by the Ironstone (British Steel?) Company, but presumably when they was not used so much, it was taken back into the farm as agricultural land and then subequently sold after various owners of Manor Farm moved in over the years.
It is a sad loss as I understand some villagers now have to go to a neighbouring village to tend Allotments and grow their own vegetables, although many properties in the village have large gardens.
If you can shed any light on any records which might have been held for this village, I would love to hear about them. Otherwise, I suspect information is lost for ever and certainly the village has no Allotments now."
